Homework:
Homework will be assigned most days and checked frequently. Some homework assignments may be collected. To receive full credit for homework, work must be shown and all problems must be attempted. Students should check answers and ask questions before the class moves on. It is fine if you wish to work with classmates on homework. Copying homework is not accepted. Late homework assignments may receive part credit.
Grading:
Grading is on a total point system, including tests, quizzes, projects, and homework. Total number of points will vary from term to term. Approximate breakdown:
25% Homework, projects, group work, classwork
75% Quizzes and Tests
Tests will always be announced; larger quizzes will be announced. Some smaller quizzes may not be announced. Group work will be part of the course. There will be at least one project each term.
Classroom Expectations:
Students should be on time for class, and ready to work when the bell rings. Homework should be out, students should be working on the Problem of the Day.
Students should be involved the entire class period- listening, taking notes, asking and answering questions, trying problems, working on group work. The more you put into a course, the more you will get out of it!
Students should be respectful of other students and the teacher at all times. Do not interrupt or talk when some one else is talking. No question or answer is unimportant; usually if you have a question, there are probably five other students with the same question. Do not be afraid to ask questions!
All academic work is to be yours and yours alone. When an assignment is a group assignment, all members of the group are expected to contribute equally.
No food or drink in the class. Water bottles should be filled before class if at all possible. Please limit any interruptions to the class- if necessary, be sure to log out and in, and use and return the lanyards.
Any time at the end of class should be used to practice problems, ask questions or begin homework. Do not pack up and get ready to leave before the bell.
Cell phone usage:
Cell phones may not be used in class at any time, unless expressly directed by the teacher.
Make-up work:
If you are absent, plan to find out what you missed from a classmate or the website. You need to check with me the day you return to arrange for making up any quizzes or tests. If you miss class due to a field trip, you are still responsible for homework or assessments due the day you get back. School policy allows one day of additional time for each day missed to make up work. Please make up any quizzes or tests promptly or risk losing credit. Check X2 periodically to make sure you are not missing work, I will not chase after you.
Extra help: I will be available for extra help in room 134 before and after school (no appointment necessary); if you know you are coming in, a heads-up is helpful.
I am also available during my C block study (room 284) on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 7. Please feel free to stop by, even if you only have one question. Clearing up a misunderstanding early on can be much more useful than waiting until the end of the term.
